About Us

Who are we?

We are the "Midlocanics" of Midlothian, VA -- FIRST Team 1541.  The team began in 2004. We did just about anything to raise money -- recycling aluminum cans, raking leaves, painting barns – you name it.  To date, we continue to recycle aluminum cans -- it’s our main fundraiser.   Over the past eight years, we’ve recycled about 27,000 pounds of them.

Our team is currently made up of students from four different schools; Midlothian High, Clover Hill High, Manchester High and James River High.

We spread the FIRST message via robot demos at the mall, elementary schools, the state fair, the YMCA, Cub/Boy Scout meetings, legislative receptions, and business expos. Please contact us if you'd like a robot demonstration!

Take a look at our 2011 robot at last year's Pittsburgh regional finals!

Who’s the Dude in the Can?

Did we mention that we recycle aluminum cans for money?  Must have been a late night working on the robot or an afternoon of crushing cans – the exact origins of Can Man are now lost in myth.  But he’s our mascot that morphs just the tiniest bit every year to reflect the FIRST competition.
