Green Makes Cents

From the beginning, the Midlocanics have had a focus on the environment.  Our first year, the team collected aluminum cans to recycle for money.  This school-wide drive has turned into our main fundraiser and as a result, eight years later more than 27,000 pounds of aluminum have been recycled. 

We've since expanded our efforts to include other consumer electronic products including cell phones, digital cameras, ipods and ink cartridges.  
Team 1541 is also a proud participant in FIRST Green, an e-cycling pilot program involving Virginia teams working in partnership with 2nd Solutions, Inc.  This “green” initiative addresses the growing environmental problem associated with the disposal of electronic devices while offering a new funding opportunity for FRC teams.
